Molly Spotted Elk Collaborative Drawing
I borrowed an image from the NewEnglandHistoricalSociety.org of Molly Spotted Elk. I printed it on 8 1/2 by 11" paper and then cut it into squares. I asked each camper to enlarge and reproduce one square. The summer campers in Abenaki Cabin created this image in pencil and charcoal. It is about 2 1/2 by 3 feet.
Below is a tiny bit of info about her from the historical society.
Molly Spotted Elk 1903-1977, was the stage name for Mary Alice Nelson, a Penobscot who won acclaim for her dancing in Paris. She received acclaim as an entertainer, writer and anthropologist.
Molly was born on the Indian Island Reservation, in Maine, on Nov. 17, 1903.
