Handwoven wool and cotton tam

Sorting thru my stock of handwovens, I found a favorite red scarf. It was handspun, hand dyed Romney-Merino wool from Heather and Don's flock at Watson Farm in Jamestown, RI and there was enough fabric to cut out a tam.

I made a mock up and used it as a pattern. For the hat band I used a narrow tape in cotton and tencel I had woven and tucked away for a future project.

I cut the fabric, then zig-zagged all the edges. I stitched everything together with 1/2" seam, added a cotton lining to the band and interfacing to give it body. I handstitched the band to the outside and hemmed the lining in place. A pom pom on top finished it off.
