Twig Hut Construction at Dragonfly Farm

Debe Loughlin and I stand in front of a little structure we built with the help of Peter Loughlin. We cleared maple, ash and oak saplings from an overgrown area near the small farm pond on their property. Peter had another useful tool we used to make deep holes to place the twigs into the ground, a 5 foot long pinch bar. Upper branches were bent over and tied to twigs on the opposite side of the hut. We wove in shorter twigs and saplings horizontally and each additional element made the structure stronger.

We were very pleased with the shape which reminds us of a bee skep. Debe and Peter are registered bee keepers and the web site for art workshops on the farm is www.dragonflyhoney.com.

I will be showing work at Isaac Dyer Gallery, located on the farm in August 2010. Opening reception is Friday, August 6 4-7pm. I am offering a Feltmaking Workshop on Saturday, Aug 7, 10-3.
